Leeds United: Fans debate Kiko Casilla case in response to Phil Hay podcast

Speaking on the Phil Hay Show podcast, Leeds United journalist Hay was joined by fanzine The Square Ball to discuss the infamous Kiko Casilla case – with many supporters debating the saga themselves on social media in response.

Casilla, who has started 35 games for the Whites this season (WhoScored), was handed an eight-match ban along with a £60,000 fine for racially abusing West Bromwich Albion winger Jonathan Leko at the Valley back in September 2019 (BBC). Leko, who has since been ruled out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury, released his own statement after the ruling was completed, stating that he found it difficult to watch Casilla play for such long periods of time without punishment.

As well as receiving his eight-match ban and fine, the Spanish shot-stopper will have to attend a face-to-face education session. Responding to Hay’s insight on the podcast, which you can listen to here, many Whites fans have debated the case themselves on Twitter – with one fan stating that he is ‘very disappointed‘ at the lack of comment from the club.
