Responding to a clip posted by Newcastle United, many Leeds United fans enjoyed seeing former Elland Road favourite David Batty involved in a bust-up with Manchester United’s Nicky Butt.
Though the former midfielder is playing for the Magpies at the time posted, he did obviously make his name with the Whites and recorded 194 appearances across two spells with his boyhood charges. So, any footage of him going up against the club’s great rivals was likely to spark a reaction from sections of the support online.
In the clip above, the former England international appears to grab his compatriot by the throat after some challenges between the two and both are booked as a result. That incident, presumably much to the jubilation of Leeds fans, came during the Magpies’ infamous 5-0 trouncing of the Red Devils back in 1996.

It was then relayed by popular Leeds fan account The Square Ball on Twitter, prompting many fans to discuss it, as well as point out Eric Cantona’s presence very close to the referee as he discusses Batty’s actions. Here’s a closer look.
Nicky Butt thought he was hard, Batty was hard.
