Transfer insider Dean Jones has made a claim regarding Leeds United star Raphinha, GiveMeSport report, which has since been confirmed by Victor Orta.

The Brazilian has been a revelation at Elland Road since joining from Rennes back in 2020, contributing to 27 Leeds goals.

His displays have caught the eye of huge clubs though, especially at Barcelona, with the Catalan giants in advanced talks with Raphinha’s agent, Deco.

The winger looks set to be key for Jesse Marsch in the final eight games of the Premier League season as the Whites look to avoid relegation, with a summer exit possibly on the cards.

The Latest: Jones’ comments

Talking to GiveMeSport, Jones had this to say regarding Barcelona and Raphinha, believing a move isn’t as advanced as people are saying and also unsure when it comes to a release clause.

“I’m not sure he has a [release] clause to be honest, but we’ll find out soon. Barcelona are keen. From what I understand, it’s not as advanced as some people are saying.”

Leeds transfer chief Orta has now confirmed that there is no release clause in Raphinha’s current contract, should the Whites remain in the Premier League.

The Verdict: Safety key

Securing Premier League status is key for Leeds over the coming weeks, and they are correct to put talks with Barcelona on hold over a possible move.

The La Liga giants will more than likely be hoping that the Whites drop back down to the Championship over the coming months, as a €25m release clause will allegedly then come into play.

Hopefully, everyone involved will be happy at the end of this transfer saga, which may end in Leeds staying up and Raphinha getting a move to the Nou Camp in a big-money deal.
