Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has shone in the Premier League this season, and this has seen him receive some very unlikely praise from former Premier League forward Gabriel Agbonlahor.
What Agbonlahor had to say about Bamford
Leeds supporters will know that the former Villa striker is not typically complimentary of their club, but clearly Bamford’s performances have impressed him as he told Football insider: “What’s surprised me is how good his finishing is. He’s never going to get that ball and dribble past players but what he does have is a great finish on him.
“He showed with his goal at the weekend how clinical he can be. His link-up play as well. Yes, I’ve been surprised but credit to him.
“It was probably his last chance in the Premier League to do it and he’s done it. He’s been outstanding. I’m sure if Tammy Abraham doesn’t start scoring and getting game time Bamford will be picked before him [in the England squad].”
Bamford has been crucial for Leeds
Bamford has indeed had a great campaign so far this season, scoring eleven Premier League goals in 20 appearances (Transfermarkt). In his last two games, he has picked up one goal and two assists against Leicester, and an assist against Everton as he returned to form after a dry spell.
His stats across the season show why Agbonlahor is so impressed. As well as his eleven goals, Bamford has also picked up five assists and managed 3.4 shots per game (WhoScored). Without his eleven goals, Leeds would only have 25 this campaign, meaning that the Englishman has nearly scored a third of their top flight goals (SofaScore).
Without him, the club would certainly be a lot closer to the relegation zone, but the former Chelsea youngster has taken to the top flight like a duck to water this time around, and if this was his ‘last chance’, he has certainly grabbed it.
