After making a stunning start to his Leeds United career following his move from Huesca in 2017, Samuel Saiz must have felt like he was on the verge of greatness at Elland Road.
Yet after receiving a six-match ban for spitting at an opponent during an FA Cup clash with Newport County, things started to unravel for the Spaniard who struggled for consistency during the remainder of his debut season.
Although Saiz would continue to be a starter for the Whites despite a change in management last summer, a severe drop-off in form eventually resulted in Marcelo Bielsa deciding to loan him to Getafe in January.
Despite being back in his home country, the winger failed to make a positive impression for the Azulones as manager Pepe Bordales limited his involvement to sporadic appearances from the bench.
With Getafe securing their return to the Europa League after securing a fifth-place finish in La Liga last week, it is not at all surprising that they have refused to exercise the option to buy Saiz in the summer for £6m (via The Yorkshire Evening Post).
Having been rejected by the Madrid-based outfit, it is relatively unclear just what the future holds for the 28-year-old yet a return to the Whites would almost certainly be out of the question if Bielsa decides to prolong his stay at the club.
Reacting to journalist Phil Hay’s tweet about the latest update on Saiz, loads of Leeds fans suggested that the club should do all they can to cut ties with the winger.

We don’t need him. He constantly made bad decisions and he only managed to hit his peak level in a few games. A lot of the time he spent his energy being frustrated and he wasn’t physically prepared for the league. Plenty of flair, some great ideas, but not enough end product.

I understand and respect he may have had personal family reasons why he wanted to leave. He had his chance at Getafe. It’s telling they don’t want him either.
Such a pity one of his problems seems to be his attitude (the spitting incident was telling). he has bags of talent.

Regardless of his personal problems which i have sympathy for we’d be better off getting rid he played well up to the spitting incident and was average at best after. it’s no big loss recoup what we can and move on. you’ll not hear much about him once he’s gone

Sell him to a chinese team, usa etc. First one that makes a decent offer, let him suffer the consequences of letting a club down middle season.

It was sad that he had to leave, but understandable because of his pregnant wife feeling homesick & wanting to have her baby back home with family. But I can never forgive him for spitting so let him move on & we can find someone that does want to wear the shirt #MOT xx
