When Pierre-Michel Lasogga joined Leeds United on loan from Hamburg in 2017, their supporters had every right to feel excited given his previous escapades in the Bundesliga.
Capable of causing havoc when at his very best, the forward arrived at Elland Road with a lot of pressure to deliver for his new side.
Yet despite reaching double figures in terms of goals for the Whites last season, Lasogga’s lack of fitness proved to be a real issue for the 27-year-old as he was unable to make the impact that was expected of him.
With Leeds more than willing to let him go upon the expiry of his loan last summer, it would have been somewhat of a surprise to many to see just how productive the forward turned out to be for Hamburg during the 2018/19 campaign.
Although he was unable to help his side secure promotion from the second division in Germany, Lasogga enjoyed a brilliant year individually as he fired in 19 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions.
Arguably playing the best football of his career to date, the forward’s decision to not agree a new deal with Die Rothosen duly prompted speculation about a possible return to West Yorkshire in the upcoming transfer window.
However, with his previous performances during his brief spell in England leaving a lot to be desired, loads of Leeds fans took to Twitter to dissuade their club from even thinking about signing Lasogga.
why am i seeing so many people mentioning lasogga on twitter? dont ever wanna see him in a leeds shirt again, seriously frustrating, lazy, weak player

Why am I seeing Leeds fans suggesting we bring Pierre-Michel Lasogga back to Leeds? No thanks, he’d be lucky to survive a Bielsa pre-season let alone see out a full 46 game Championship season #LUFC

People actually want lasogga back? The man looked exhausted after 5 minutes on the pitch
— Louisa Wade (@LouisaWade_) 22 May 2019
Seeing people look for Lasogga back if he got super fit seems good as he was a class finisher
But realistically he would probably end up in A and E 20 minutes into his first Bielsa training session hooked on life support #LUFC

Can anyone be seriously questioning whether getting Lasogga back is a good idea? The geezer can’t actually move his legs. #lufc

people want Lasogga back is mad to me. Look at the impact Bielsa had on Harrison, Clarke, Shackleton and Phillips. Any big club are going to be more than happy to loan us players and players looking to move would want to be part of a promotion chasing side. Futures bright #LUFC

Can’t believe there’s calls for bringing Lasogga back #lufc

Amount of Leeds fans I’m seeing that want Lasogga back is astonishing. We don’t deserve nice things

Please can this whole let’s get Lasogga back end now, the guy can hit a ball yeah but he’s got about as much stamina as my grandad and that ain’t a right lot
