Leicester City: Djene Dakonam has the stats to hit the ground running

Leicester City could already have their eye on a potential Harry Maguire replacement, with the Foxes eyeing a move for Getafe defender Djene Dakonam.

According to Marca (via the Leicester Mercury), the Foxes are moving quickly to replace Maguire, who is set to sign for Manchester United this weekend, and have reportedly identified 27-year-old Dakonam as the ideal replacement for the England man.

Togo international Dakonam was impressive last season over in Spain as he made 34 appearances for Getafe and proved to be one of the most consistent performers for the Spanish side over the course of the campaign, cited as one of the major reasons the performed so well by Breaking the Lines during a season they finished fifth.

Indeed, the stats suggest Dakonam could well be the ideal sort of replacement for Maguire too, with the big defender averaging an impressive 4.4 clearances per game last season (per WhoScored), as well as completing 2.2 interceptions per game. This in itself is impressive, with Maguire himself only averaging 1.2 interceptions per game and only just usurping Dakonam in the clearances stats, with 4.6 per game.

In fact, the former Sint-Truidense V.V. man finished second in the rankings throughout the whole of La Liga for interceptions per 90 minutes over the course of the season.

Clearly, there may be an adjustment period if the 27-year-old was to move to the East Midlands, though Football.London talked about his ability to play as a right-back, so his potential signing could help cover two positions in theory.

So, this makes sense for Leicester to be looking for a replacement, and the stats certainly seem to back up that Dakonam could fit into the squad at the King Power.

For the short-term, the 27-year-old could prove to be a natural replacement with such little time left in the transfer window.
