The Leicester head coach told LCFC TV that he was pleased with his side’s performance away at the European champions, stating that his team will learn a lot from the game.
The Foxes ended up losing the game 2-1, after managing to come back into the game with just 10 minutes to go, however, a controversial penalty in the 95th minute was enough to carry on Liverpool’s perfect start to the season.
Sadio Mane was the difference between the two sides on the day, with the Senegalese forward scoring the opening goal and also winning a penalty in added time. The penalty – which was subsequently checked by VAR – caused much controversy, after many thought that Marc Albrighton’s touch on Mane was not enough to bring the player down. Jurgen Klopp said that it was “obviously a penalty“, while Rodgers claimed that it would not be turned around if it was the other way (BBC), and Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer even accused Mane of diving.
Rodgers gave his verdict after the match to LCFC TV.
He said: “In the moments we had to defend we coped with that pressure well and then when we could play we broke through their pressure and looked a real threat.
“We showed our great mentality to come back into the game in the second half, get the equalising goal and it looked like we could be the team that could go on and win, so to concede in the 95th minute is obviously disappointing.
“But there are a lot of positives to take and, like I said, we’ll learn from it.”
There was a mixed response from Leicester fans, with some encouraging the side for their next match with Liverpool, while a few others even criticised Rodgers tactics.

Finally acknowledging not give opposition teams a headstart by playing Maddison wide would be the biggest positive Rodgers could take

It is not possible to mitigate players throwing themselves on the floor in the penalty box. Leicester are a good honest hard working side.

This man has to stay with us at every cost, he’s going to bring back the great time again soon, follow the road that Khun Vichai started us on. We’re stronger together and we will fear no one #fearlessforever
