Leicester City: Foxes consider move for Atalanta defender Robin Gosens

According to a report from the Daily Mail, before making considerable steps to sign Atalanta defender Timothy Castagne, Leicester City were also weighing up a move for his teammate Robin Gosens – with the full-back once being compared to Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The versatile Serie A ace, who can play in both the left-back position and midfield, was reportedly on the Foxes’ radar before they decided to step up their pursuit of Castagne, and it’s clear to see why going by his credentials.

Gosens, who was a mainstay for Atalanta last season, starting 31 league matches for the eventual Champions League quarter-finalists, scored an impressive nine goals for the club over 2019/20 whilst providing eight assists (WhoScored), marking him out as a real threat for a defender who can play further forward.

Should Leicester City sign Robin Gosens for £27 million?

However, despite only costting them £800,000 in 2017, the Italian club are reportedly keen to secure a major profit off any registered interest, with The Sun reporting that Atalanta have slapped a £27m price tag on the player.

Given his noteworthy valuation, it’s not hard to see why Leicester reportedly favour a move for Castagne who can also play in Ben Chilwell’s position, but is Gosens worth the investment?

His potency out wide, highlighted by his goals and assists return, has drawn comparisons with Liverpool sensation Alexander-Arnold. Indeed, former Torino and Lazio defender Roberto Cravero told DAZN [via Forza Italian Football] that Gosens was ‘more decisive’ than the Englishman over the 2019/20 season – something that clubs should perhaps notice.

Whether or not Leicester take that gamble remains to be seen, but the glowing praise of him, along with his figures from last term, suggest that he is certainly one to watch with interest.
