Leicester City supporters in the Transfer Tavern are very much looking forward to the rest of the summer transfer window, what with their team eyeing up the additions that could take them to the next level.
Claude Puel’s men secured a ninth place finish in the Premier League this term but their form in 2018 was somewhat of a concern, what with the Foxes managing just five victories in their 18 league games since the turn of the year. And with Frenchman Puel coming under increasing pressure as the season wore on, he knows that he must get things right during the summer, with fans in the Tavern hoping to see their side knocking on the door of the European places next time round.
As such, there are many expectant Leicester fans in the Tavern at present, several of whom are unlikely to be overly thrilled by recent reports suggesting that Tottenham have made a £15 million move for Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, who has also attracted the interest of Puel’s Leicester.
And given Spurs have made the first move, Leicester simply must respond by also making an approach for the £4.5 million-rated sensation (as per Transfermarkt).
Ultimately, the 22-year-old enjoyed the best season of his career at the Championship club this term, scoring three goals and laying on six assists to help Steve Bruce’s side reach the play-off final, only to go down 1-0 to Fulham in the showpiece at Wembley.
And while those numbers aren’t ground-breaking, especially given they came at Championship level, there has been a maturity in Grealish this term that hasn’t always been seen in previous campaigns, perhaps suggesting that he is indeed ready to command regular football in the Premier League.
And Leicester should be willing to give him that opportunity as, not only would he be a signing for the present, but he’d also be one of the future as well.
Puel somewhat struggled to fall upon a number ten in his starting eleven this term with the likes of Demarai Gray, Riyad Mahrez, and Kelechi Iheanacho all trying their hand in that position, to varying degrees of success.
But with Mahrez seemingly on his way out of the King Power Stadium, not only will Puel need to think again regarding a number ten, but he’ll also need someone capable of producing brilliance out of very little – Grealish could be that man.
Obviously, the Foxes may struggle to convince the Englishman against a move to Tottenham, but with the likely guarantee of regular football at Leicester, which can’t be said for certain at Spurs, Puel’s men could certainly give him something to think about were they to make a move.
And with Mauricio Pochettino’s men having already done so, it’s imperative that Leicester respond with an offer of their own, as they seek the additions that can help take them to the next level next season.
Leicester fans… what do you think? Let us know!
