Our Tottenham Hotspur fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping to improve on recent seasons’ performances.

Over the past few seasons, our regulars have seen Spurs become a real top-four contender, with their blend of exciting and attacking football under former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino. He’s established a team full of youth and more importantly according to our barman, a strong English presence, but this season they seem to be lacking a little something.

Pochettino has his first-team regulars and beyond that, our punters see that many are on the fringe or young talent needing game time. This January window needs to be a positive one if they are to sustain there bid to keep among the top four clubs in the Country.

Strength in depth

It’s been highlighted many times but if Spurs lose the likes of Harry Kane or Dele Alli, they don’t have anyone of the same quality to dive in and produce the goods in their absence.

If Pochettino is going to start to bring trophies to the club, they’ll need a bigger pool of first-team players. Obviously, that’s something that dogs many teams around Europe, though it’s something Tottenham’s top brass need to fix ASAP.

A striker

Inevitably, it seems that at some point Kane will move on to a bigger club. If that day comes, Pochettino doesn’t have a plan B ready to step in and replace the England star.

With all his eggs in the Kane basket and a backup striker on the wrong side of 30 in Fernando Llorente, surely a quality striker must top Spurs’ shopping list. Even with Kane sticking about, the club need to find someone who could both complement and compete with their star man.
