The 19-year-old is currently in the process of working his way back from a long-term injury layoff, and whilst he has been fit for a while, he has been limited to domestic cup competition thus far.
Indeed, it has been a long road back for Gomez, and whilst Klopp clearly rates him very highly – it would appear as though the German is not the only admirer of the defender.
According to Diario Gol, Gomez is a shock target for Real Madrid – with manager Zinedine Zidane reportedly having a ‘weakness’ for the defender.
The publication are noting that a clear out is expected at Los Blancos this summer – with Gomez reportedly one of the players being considered as a potential arrival.
Our landlord is hesitant to believe this story, especially given that Gomez has hardly featured this season. He has made just 3 starts, and whilst he has looked decent, the gap in quality between domestic cup competition in England and the Spanish top flight is huge.
Gomez has spent much of the campaign with the Liverpool under-23 side as he continues to recover from injury, whilst a new deal that he signed earlier this year hints that Klopp rates him very highly.
It is certainly one to keep an eye on, but the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern aren’t expecting it to come to fruition.
