Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we are expecting a busy summer at Anfield with a number of high profile departures in the pipeline. One player who Liverpool supporting punters in the tavern are worried about losing is long-serving goalkeeper Pepe Reina who could end his spell with the Reds by returning to Spain this summer.
News from the Daily Star this morning has intensified speculation that this could be Reina’s last season on Merseyside after reporting that La Liga giants Barcelona are ready to lure the 30-year-old to the Camp Nou with an £8 million offer after deciding that the Spanish international is a suitable replacement for current stopper Victor Valdes.
While Liverpool have some reservations about selling their first choice keeper, the paper reports that Brendan Rodgers is not too impressed with Reina’s ability to adapt to a pass-first system and it is now thought that Reina would be willing to listen for offers from one of the best sides in the world.
Reina is currently under contract at Anfield until 2016 but that doesn’t mean he wont be playing his last two games for Liverpool in the upcoming weeks after an memorable eight-year spell with the Reds.
