Liverpool could find their very own Jordan Pickford with shock swoop on Newcastle United

The Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern don’t overly know what to think about the manner in which their summer has gone. Indeed, the punters propping up our bar are gutted to have missed out on Nabil Fekir, though the arrivals of Naby Keita and Fabinho have at least softened the blow.

With that in mind, our resident Reds are eager to move on to other targets. Despite having so much to be excited about, their side remains one with obvious holes in, particularly in the goalkeeping department. Both Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet have failed to convince between the posts, so the club could certainly do with strengthening there.

As you can imagine, a number of names have been linked. However, with FSG reportedly unlikely to spend bucket loads of cash on the likes of Alisson, Jurgen Klopp needs to be clever in his approach when it comes to buying a stopper of note.

Well, while it may be a slightly rogue choice, we’re suggesting Newcastle United’s Freddie Woodman as a target. Granted, the 21-year-old lacks much in the way of top-level experience, but Klopp has previously shown a willingness to trust burgeoning talent.

A regular for England at various youth levels amid their success, Woodman has previously been linked with a move to Anfield. A hugely talented shot-stopper, Toon boss Rafa Benitez doesn’t currently have the kind of infrastructure that allows him to bleed youngsters in at the deep end. Liverpool, on the other hand, do.

We’ve seen how – across Stanley Park – Jordan Pickford has blossomed into England’s No.1 after strong campaigns for both Sunderland and Everton. Clearly, Woodman has a long way to go until he can be considered in the same bracket, though it’s kind of move you can see Klopp making, considering his impressive coaching ability.
