Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has been speaking about he’s been told regarding midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri.
Murphy reveals his Swiss secrets
The 29-year-old has found himself ostracised from Jurgen Klopp’s first team this season having made just two starts in all competitions (Whoscored).
Shaqiri’s stunning free-kick against Lincoln City was not enough to convince the German tactician to give him more chances in the team and he too is now out injured as the Reds injury crisis worsens.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Murphy explains what he was told by people inside the club’s new training complex in Kirkby about Shaqiri, who Graeme Souness previously described as Liverpool’s “door opener” (cited by Football365).
“I think Jota coming in has helped massively, and I’ve spoken to a couple of people who have all said Shaqiri looks really sharp, he got a little knock on international duty but I’m expecting him to have more of an impact this season.”
With just 172 minutes of competitive club action this season (Whoscored), Shaqiri has not been given the opportunity to make the impact that Murphy suggests.
Transfer Tavern Verdict
After chances came to leave the club last January and in the summer, the reasons for keeping Shaqiri around now make sense.
If he is exceptional in training, that would be more than a good enough reason to keep him around, as was the same for Adam Lallana, who left Anfield this summer once his contract expired.
With three years left on his current deal and with the European Championships on the horizon, Shaqiri could seek for a new home in the hope that, third time lucky, he will get his wish of playing regular first-team football.
