Liverpool supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side ease past Stoke City 3-0 on Wednesday to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to seven matches, and at the same time move up to fifth in the Premier League table.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the Potters off the back of drawing against both Sevilla and Chelsea, which ultimately were games they could and perhaps should have won. Yet there was little doubt about the result in Staffordshire on Wednesday as a Mohamed Salah brace as well as Sadio Mane’s fifth of the campaign secured a comfortable victory for the Merseyside giants, who in turn moved up to fifth in the division at the expense of Tottenham, who slipped to seventh after losing at Leicester the day previous.
Consequently, there have been many delighted Liverpudlians in the Tavern this week, and they are likely to be interested by a recent report from The Liverpool Echo, which outlines some intriguing comments from midfielder Emre Can regarding his future at Anfield.
The 23-year-old made the move to Liverpool back in 2014 but struggled for regular football under former boss Brendan Rodgers, before seeing his gametime significantly improve under current chief Klopp when he was appointed back in October 2015.
And with 18 appearances in all competitions already this term, it’s clear that the Germany international remains an integral part of the squad at Anfield, so the fact that he has yet to agree a contract extension, what with his current one up in the summer, is likely to concern Reds fans.
And the midfielder has addressed speculation regarding his future at the Premier League giants, saying: ‘Yes I could (sign a pre-contract with another club next month), but tomorrow I could also sign for Liverpool. We’ll see.’
These comments are likely to intrigue our resident Liverpool fans, what it seeming that Can is not ruling out penning a new deal at Anfield, albeit also not ruling out making a move come the end of his current deal.
Landlord’s verdict: Emre Can’s contract situation has been in the headlines for a while now, and with time ticking away towards the New Year, it’s becoming an increasingly important situation for Liverpool.
And recent comments from the midfielder himself are particularly intriguing, given that Can has not ruled out signing a new contract at Anfield, albeit he hasn’t ruled out a move away either.
Yet, if the situation was to remain the same in a month’s time, the 23-year-old would be able to sign a contract agreement with a foreign club, and with Juventus thought to be interested, the Reds could be left in somewhat of a predicament if there is no resolution this month.
