The Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are definitely onboard with this…
Liverpool have impressed so far this season, and up until Chelsea put on a masterclass over the weekend – they were leading the Premier League.
Jurgen Klopp has led his side fantastically so far this season, but it appears clear that his side is in desperate need of a bit of defensive reinforcement.
It would make sense, then, that Klopp would be looking towards expanding his squad depth in January, and if the Daily Star are to be believed – that is exactly what he is planning to do.
According to the Daily Star, Jurgen Klopp is plotting a Southampton double-swoop – with both Sam McQueen and Virgil van Dijk on his radar.
Whilst naturally a midfielder, Sam McQueen has been utilised on the left-hand side of the defence for Southampton this season – and has looked good in doing so.
Virgil van Dijk is, undoubtedly, the more high profile of the two – and the Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are delighted at the prospect of his potential signing. Undoubtedly one of the Premier League’s most solid central defenders, Dijk has become a wall in the heart of the Saints’ defence – and he would undoubtedly improve Liverpool’s somewhat shaky defence.
With Sakho seemingly on the way out, and James Milner currently being played out of position – both Liverpool’s central defence and left-back spots need reinforcement in January – and these 2 certainly fit the bill.
The Southampton fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are very disappointed about this, as van Dijk, in particular, is one of their most important players. Since signing in 2015 from Celtic, he has formed the cornerstone of the Southampton defence – and he would be a huge loss should he depart.
Our landlord thinks that this move could prove to be a stroke of genius.
