Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are hopeful of bringing in defensive cover after The Mirror explained they have been quoted just £4 million for Benfica veteran Maxi Pereira.
The Uruguayan international right back starred in the World Cup and Brendan Rodgers is looking to sign him as a replacement for Glen Johnson who is out contract next summer and looks to be on his way out of the Merseyside club.
The 30-year-old has bags of experience and has captained the Portuguese giants on many occasions and could become a true leader in the Reds’ defence.
Although some see £4 million as a small price to pay for a solid right back, it can be also be considered as a big fee for an ageing player who only has six months remaining on his contract.
In contrast, Liverpool have also been considering Barcelona’s Martin Montoya who at 20-years-old represents more of a long-term option with the player’s agent revealing that his client would be ”100 per cent’ leaving the Camp Nou recently.
