Liverpool face blow in transfer pursuit

eriksen.jpgThere are a few whispers around the Football Transfer Tavern this morning that long-term Liverpool target Christian Eriksen may decide to make the move to Germany and Borussia Dortmund instead to the dismay of Reds supporters.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have been heavily linked with a move for the impressive 21-year-old this summer but fresh speculation from Sky Sports indicates that the German side, who are set to play in the Champions League final at Wembley in a few weeks, have made contact with Ajax about a possible signing.

Ajax head coach Frank de Boer admitted that he is not surprised by the interest from other clubs and that he is not confident about keeping the Danish international in Amsterdam when the transfer window opens at the end of the season with only 12 months left of his current contract.

“If clubs do not show up, then they don’t have any intelligence,” de Boer told Sky reporters.

Although the Dutch legend confirmed that he thought Eriksen would be a good signing he did not say if he had been approached by Dortmund, who are looking for a replacement after Mario Gotze left for Bayern Munich.

He said: “If I was called than I wouldn’t tell it to you. But Chris would suit well in Germany.”

Ajax director of football Marc Overmars added in De Telegraaf: “Informally a number of clubs have contacted us.”
