It’s been a very strong start to the season for Liverpool as following their heavy summer spend, Jurgen Klopp’s side has started the season on a run of 12 games unbeaten in the league and as it stands, look most likely to challenge Man City for the Premier League title.
With Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in such great form, a lot of the attacking emphasis has been taken away from striker Roberto Firmino. The Brazilian hasn’t had the best of seasons so far this year as he’s only managed two Premier League goals.
Following last weekend’s game, the Liverpool faithful were fairly critical of the Brazil international and although he hasn’t been in the best of form, the Liverpool fans are wrong to be so critical of the usually reliable striker.
Firmino may not be at his best form at the moment but overall, he remains one of the most crucial players in the side. Salah and latterly, Mane rightly take the plaudits for their obscene goalscoring record while Van Dijk is also rightly praised for the way he’s transformed Liverpool’s defence. However, in Firmino, Liverpool have one of the best all-round strikers in the league.
Last year, the former Hoffenheim striker proved himself as invaluable to the side. His ability to score as well as press from the front and also create goals was an underrated quality amidst Salah’s incredible season.
If there’s any criticism of Liverpool this season, it should be levelled at the midfield, which aside from Shaqiri when he’s played as a 10, has been poor overall. Naby Keita hasn’t settled just yet and although Wijnaldum is having one of his best years, he hasn’t chipped in with goals either.
The Liverpool fans need to relax and keep the patience with a side that is second in the table and hasn’t even clicked into fourth gear yet.
