Though Liverpool’s devastating attack showed signs of finding their top form again during Wednesday night’s Champions League thumping of Red Star Belgrade, it’s actually the defence built by Jurgen Klopp that’s attracted most of the praise around the team’s strong start to the campaign this season.
Indeed, while the January signing of Virgil van Dijk is the most obvious reference point when looking at the total transformation of the Reds’ previously shaky backline, the form of England international Joe Gomez cannot be understated in its absolute importance.
The 21-year-old has put his injury problems behind him and emerged as a truly top class central defender for both club and country, so Paul Joyce’s tweet revealing that the club had opened contract talks with the former Charlton youngster has gone down very well amongst supporters on Twitter.
Liverpool beginning to talk to Joe Gomez over a new contract. Discussions at early stage but club looking to reward his development.
