Liverpool: Fans believe Joe Gomez is a better player than Manchester United’s Harry Maguire

Liverpool fans were in agreement that defender Joe Gomez is better than Manchester United’s multi-million signing Harry Maguire.

The 22-year-old joined the Reds under the Brendan Rodgers era for £3.5m in 2015 and has established himself as a regular first-team starter alongside the Dutch colossus Virgil van Dijk, due to the absence of the Cameroonian defender Joel Matip due to injury. Before the clash with Wolves, he had made 13 Premier League appearances and has averaged 1.2 interceptions, conceded 0.8 fouls and has a pass success rate of 89.4% from 737 minutes this season, according to WhoScored. Gomez has been part of a team that has kept seven clean sheets in a row, as per TransferMarkt.

The Red Devils’ Maguire signed for the Manchester-based outfit for £80m from Leicester City in the summer and has been heavily scrutinised following recent performances. In comparison to Gomez, the 26-year-old has made 23 Premier League appearances and has averaged 1.7 interceptions, 0.8 fouls and has a pass success rate of 86.2% from 2160 minutes of play, as per Whoscored. He was handed the captain’s armband by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Supporters were in agreement that Gomez was the better player and made their feelings clear on social media.
