Liverpool fans call for Virgil van Dijk to win the Premier League Player of the Month award

Liverpool supporters in the Transfer Tavern have been in fine voice this week after seeing their team secure a third successive victory to start the new Premier League season.

Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their encounter with Brighton last weekend having got past West Ham and Crystal Palace in their first two matches, and thus full of confidence ahead of the visit of Chris Hughton’s Seagulls. And while the Reds weren’t quite at their best, Mohamed Salah’s first half strike was enough to seal all three points for the Merseysiders at Anfield, thus setting them up perfectly for the trip to Leicester City later on today.

As such, there are many confident Liverpool fans up and down the country at present, several of whom have been reacting to the news that Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk have been nominated for the Premier League’s Player of the Month award.

Senegal international Mane has made a sensational start to the 2018/19 season in netting three goals in his opening three league games, with a brace in the 4-0 win over West Ham followed by the second in their hard-fought 2-0 success at Palace back on August 20.

And centre back van Dijk has also played his part in their excellent start in helping the Reds to three clean sheets to begin the campaign, with it clear that the arrival of the Netherlands international back in January has made a massive difference to Liverpool’s defensive capabilities.

And loads of Reds fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight at the news, with many tipping £45 million-rated van Dijk (as per Transfermarkt) to win the gong ahead of his Liverpool teammate…
