The 22-year-old featured at the heart of the Reds’ backline as they took down their hated neighbours at Anfield once more.
The victory means that the Reds advanced to the fourth round of the competition for the first time in three seasons.
Starring as one out of a few first-team players in the side, Gomez showed maturity and illustrated why he plays regularly in Jurgen Klopp’s side.

According to Sofascore, Gomez won four ground duels, four aerial duels, made two tackles and had a pass success rate of 71%.
Supporters were full of praise for the Englishman and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan compared his price to cult hero Sami Hyypia and believed that Gomez could go on and be as good as the Finn. Indeed, given the fact he cost just £4.41m (per Transfermarkt) in 2015 and has helped the Merseyside giants win the Champions League, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup, the England international looks to have been a real bargain.
