Liverpool have got some huge fixtures coming up and despite the fact they’ve navigated their first seven games with seven wins, they need to avoid any injuries. Virgil van Dijk came off injured against Southampton on Saturday and the fans have been praying it’s not serious. Fortunately, Jurgen Klopp has given an update on the Dutchman on the Liverpool website and it’s good news.

Virgil van Dijk’s substitution was purely precautionary and despite the fans meltdown when he was hooked after 55 minutes, the defender seems to be fine. Jurgen Klopp opted not to risk the defender after he took a knock to his already bruised ribs. Liverpool will face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup next Wednesday and it’s likely the defender will be rested for it, with Premier League matches against Chelsea and Manchester City afterwards.
To make things worse, Klopp’s side will have to travel to Napoli in the Champions League in-between the matches with Chelsea and Manchester City and it’s hard to see Jurgen Klopp making it 11 wins from 11 at the end of the next four matches. If van Dijk doesn’t feature against Chelsea in the week he should be fit for the league clashes and Napoli and that is exactly what the Reds will want from the big man.

The Reds will be keen to have van Dijk back as soon as possible and will hope he can perform when it matters in the tough upcoming fixtures.
