Liverpool’s ‘extra fee’ agreement with Barcelona following the sale of Philippe Coutinho has expired.
When the Catalans signed the Brazilian playmaker in 2018, the two clubs agreed that a hefty premium would be added to any future sale of a Liverpool player before 2020. The add-on fee was £89million, meaning if Barca came knocking for another Anfield ace, they would pay well into nine figures to complete the deal (via The Mirror).

The purpose was to stop the La Liga giants from poaching their best players, after the loss of Coutinho echoed Luis Suarez’s departure in 2014.
However, despite this agreement now being expired, fans aren’t worried about losing any more talent. In fact, many Reds are adamant no player will want to leave seeing as they are reigning European champions and have just won the Premier League. One Kopite has replied to @AnfieldEdition, who relayed the tweet, saying ‘Look what happened to Coutinho afterwards’.

Despite making his dream move, the Brazilian hasn’t had a great time in Spain and is now looking for a move away from Barcelona, with a switch to Everton touted.
