It looks like, and it has for a while now, Nathaniel Clyne has played his last game for Liverpool. The Reds defender has gone through injury hell with a serious back problem and now, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez in top form, it appears there’s no way back for Clyne.

James Pearce of The Liverpool Echo wrote a piece on the ex-Southampton man and what the future holds for him on Merseyside. However, it looks like his days at the club are over and Jurgen Klopp will be keen to cash in on the defender as soon as possible. However, that hasn’t stopped the fans calling for the ever-consistent England man to be afforded one more crack at playing for Liverpool.
Having signed for Liverpool from the Saints in summer 2015, it looked like Clyne, who is still only 27, would be the long-term right-back at the club. Those thoughts are now a distant memory as Trent Alexander-Arnold has nailed down the right-side of the Kopites’ defence, leaving Clyne with just one appearance this season which came in the Carabao Cup 3rd round defeat to Chelsea at Anfield.

Clyne before injury was great but since come back too defence minded an almost to afraid to take anyone on anymore an more often than not will hold up play an slow down an attack by stopping an playing a simple ball backwards.

I feel Klopp is careless with using Clyne. Admiring that he is good with using the ball, he should be a better fit to hold out a draw than the hapless Matip he love to bring on to the disadvantage of the team. Klopp has to learn how to use defensive players to ensure final wins

Whilst a lot of fans would still like to see Clyne given a chance, it looks like his Anfield days are well and truly over.
