If you don’t already know, there are a lot of Liverpool fans who believe something may have gone on behind the scenes between Jurgen Klopp and Xherdan Shaqiri. The Swiss midfielder featured regularly off the bench for the Reds earlier in the season, yet he hasn’t had a sniff as of late, and last night saw him once again fail to make the grade.
A solid first leg, Reds.
Let’s keep it going in Porto. #LIVPOR #UCL

With just three minutes of time added on, Jurgen Klopp had made his first two changes as his side led 2-0 against Porto, and he obviously was happy to take the two-goal advantage to Portugal with him as he ran down the clock. Looking to his bench, the German had Shaqiri get stripped and ready for what would have been his first minutes on the pitch since late February when he got 18 minutes off the bench against Manchester United.
This time, though, it was a farce. Even on the BT Sport highlights, you can see a very disappointed Shaqiri at full-time, stripped and ready to go on as the full-time whistle blows. He failed to complete the substitution meaning that his wait for a game continues. Today is the 45th day since Shaqiri’s last minutes, and the fans will be desperate for his wait to come to an end when they host Chelsea this weekend.

The Swiss midfielder won’t have been happy to get so close to coming on and failing, and a lot of the Reds will be desperate for him to be starting, or at least get off the bench, on Sunday.
