James Milner has established himself as a very important player at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp obviously trusts him and his versatility to play in midfield and at full-back have made him one of Klopp’s go-to men. Yesterday, the 32-year-old buried a first-half penalty to give The Reds the lead and the fans showed their love for him on Twitter.

James Milner is definitely not one of the stars of Liverpool football club, but he’s one of those who the fans can always rely upon to perform no matter who the opposition is. Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah will grab headlines but it’s the Milners in the squad that ensure they can go about their business and for the ex-Manchester City man to be on penalty duty is a good way to remind the fans that the consistent midfielder is key.
The penalty yesterday was won in dubious circumstances, Mo Salah skipped into the Crystal Palace penalty area and was supposedly tripped by ex-Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho, leading to Michael Oliver pointing to the spot. Fans and pundits alike have had their say on the spot-kick and it seems Palace manager Roy Hodgson really wasn’t happy with the call, however, the only man whose opinion matters is Oliver and because of that decision, James Milner saw the benefits.
