A lot of Liverpool fans have been reacting to the pretty shocking news that they almost lost Jordan Henderson when Manchester City came calling for the midfielder back in 2015. The club were quick to tie up a deal for him at the time as they couldn’t face losing Steven Gerrard, Raheem Sterling and Hendo all in one window, according to The Daily Mail.

Jurgen Klopp recently moved to offer his captain a new five-year contract and it begs the question over whether City would have been sniffing around Henderson again. It’s no secret that Pep Guardiola is looking for a Fernandinho replacement given the Brazilian’s age and after missing out on Jorginho it wouldn’t be ludicrous to see Guardiola move for the 28-year-old who’s in the prime of his career.
It looks like Klopp admires Henderson too much to see him leave, though, and whilst the fans have mixed feelings when it comes to the ex-Sunderland man, if their manager has faith in him then they have no choice but to have faith as well. The Reds will be looking at winning the Premier League this season and taking it away from Manchester and if Henderson can help his side do that then you can argue he made the right decision by staying at Anfield.
