Liverpool: Fans praise Pep Guardiola and Brendan Rodgers for sticking up for Jurgen Klopp

Plenty of Liverpool have been responding to comments made by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers after both stuck up for Jurgen Klopp.

The German tactician stood up to scrutiny after deciding to give himself and his players a two-week winter break following new rules from the Premier League. This came after the Reds drew 2-2 against Shrewsbury Town at New Meadow in the FA Cup fourth-round, and said that U23s manager Neil Critchley and his team will step out at Anfield for the domestic rematch.

Guardiola told reporters in his press conference (cited by Liverpool Echo) that he has every right to choose the players that he likes. “We accept the schedules of the competitions, the games every two or three days, but don’t tell the manager the selection he has to choose”, the Spanish head coach said. “We will be there, but don’t tell us which players we have to play in games.”

Rodgers echoed his comments and defended his Anfield successor. “He’s well within his rights to do that”, he said (cited by the Liverpool Echo). “That’s why you have a first-team squad, you have reserve players and why you have youth players. “Jurgen is within his rights to pick whatever team he wants to pick. If he’s going to decide to rest all his players for the benefit of the club because that’s who he is employed by, then that’s what he does and he has every right to do that.”

Supporters applauded the comments of the German’s two Premier League rivals and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that it was “good to see”, while another said that he loves that all three managers hate the FA Cup.
