Liverpool fans have been reacting to revelations from The Athletic journalist James Pearce after he said that the Reds tried to bring in Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony.
The Reds attempted to capture the services of the Ivorian following the sudden departure of star striker Luis Suarez, who left the club to join Barcelona for £75m in 2014. Brendan Rodgers’ side had just missed out on the Premier League title the season before after finishing two points behind eventual champions Manchester City.
Having lost his best player, he was desperate to find a player that would fill the Uruguayan’s boots and according to The Athletic’s James Pearce, the Northern Irish manager believed that Bony was the man.
Rodgers wanted to sign Bony during that mad summer of 2014 when Suarez left and #LFC ended up with Balotelli https://t.co/4gXcQKBWYn

He was unable to capture the Swans’ forward and brought in the outspoken striker Mario Balotelli for £16m from AC Milan. Supporters shuddered over the thought of Bony playing for the Merseysiders and made their feelings clear on social media.
