Loads of Liverpool fans have been reacting to some comments from Kevin Phillips, who has urged the Reds to buy Jack Grealish if Aston Villa get relegated.
Speaking to Football Insider, the former Sunderland striker said he is “certain” Grealish will leave his boyhood club if they do indeed go down. The Villans are currently in the drop zone and two points away from safety, leading Phillips to suggest a move to Merseyside for their captain.
“Liverpool are at a point where they can splash out on the world’s best. Those world’s best players want to come and play for Liverpool and Klopp. He plays a certain style and he will not buy someone unless it plays his system.
“The obvious one is Jack Grealish. If Villa go down I am certain he will move on. Could he play for Liverpool? He is the only one out of the bottom three or four teams that could fit in that team.”
The Reds could well be in the market for a central midfielder who can carry the ball given that Adam Lallana will be out of contract this summer. Grealish, who is reportedly valued at £60m, boasts 2.2 dribbles and 2.7 key passes per game, and the 24 year-old has also racked up nine goals and six assists this term.
The Anfield faithful appear divided by Phillips’ suggestion, with some saying he is ‘brilliant’ and could replace Lallana, while others turn their noses up, insisting the Villa captain is not world class. Either way, check out some of the best responses down below…
