Liverpool supporters have been pretty downbeat in recent times after seeing their side suffer a surprise defeat in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with Red Star Belgrade in Group C sitting top of the pile having won two and lost the other of their opening three matches, and thus in prime position ahead of their clash in the Serbian capital. Yet the Reds slumped to a very disappointing defeat on Tuesday as a brace from Milan Pavkov sealed a comfortable 2-0 win for the home side, thus condemning Liverpool to a third straight away defeat in the Champions League.
Thus, there have been many disappointed Liverpudlians up and down the country in recent times, although some have taken to Twitter to praise the efforts of Mohamed Salah on Tuesday night, even if he wasn’t able to get on the scoresheet.
The 26-year-old produced one of the best goal-scoring seasons in recent memory last time round in netting 44 goals in 52 appearances in all competitions for the Merseyside giants, 32 of which coming in the Premier League to win him the Golden Boot, at the same time inspiring Klopp’s side to a second successive fourth place finish.
And while the Egypt international hasn’t quite hit the heights so far this term, albeit he still has five league goals to his name, it’s certainly not through the lack of trying, with the forward the best of a bad bunch against Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday night.
And many Liverpool fans took to Twitter to acknowledge and praise the efforts of Salah in their disappointing Champions League defeat…
Salah was the best of our team today

Salah was the only player out of the front three that started today that played decent with 5 defenders man marking him all game. Mane kept slipping and losing the ball. guve credit where its due people love criticising salah

Lallana and Salah only good players today I feel. Only good things came from them. Everybody else was appalling. Might give Robertson a let off considering he didn’t do anything obviously appalling

What an absolute shambles! What did we really expect with Matip and Lallana? Mane and Milner extremely poor only decent player was Salah, also don’t really understand why Keita and Fabinho were left on the bench? They were bought to improve our midfield or am I wrong?

Wow. You know it’s not your day when James Milner has a horrible game. Only positive is that. Salah is starting to show some of his old self, was very unlucky not to score today.
