Liverpool: Fans slam Naby Keita despite positive stats against Genk

Liverpool fans have criticised the performance of midfielder Naby Keita after their 2-1 victory at Anfield in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Guinea international was on the pitch for 74 minutes before being substituted for Andrew Robertson as the Reds climbed to the top of Group E as Napoli could only draw 1-1 against RB Salzburg.

Despite the criticism that he has received, his statistics from the game suggest that he had a good outing for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The 24-year-old had five (per WhoScored) shots on goal during the game and was unlucky not to get himself on the scoresheet. However, a few of his shots were bad connections with the ball and off-target.

He completed one key pass, one long ball and had a pass success rate of 94.3%. Defensively, he completed three tackles too, which suggested that it was an all-round good performance.

Despite this, some supporters were not convinced and made their feelings clear on social media.

Here are some of the frustrated comments from Liverpool fans:

Journalism graduate from the University of Chester. Joined Transfer Tavern in October 2020. Liverpool fan based in the north-west who will not hear a bad word said about Lucas Leiva. Gained experience with Manchester Futsal Club and 90MIN. Strongly disapproves of short corners and foul throws.
