Liverpool youngster Elijah Dixon-Bonner will leave the club this summer once his current contract expires, a Football Insider source has claimed.

The Lowdown: No playing time for Dixon-Bonner

The Reds have an incredible amount of talent throughout their squad currently, not least in midfield, where a host of senior names are battling for minutes.

That means Dixon-Bonner hasn't been able to get a look in, finding himself playing for the Under-23s and completely out of Jurgen Klopp's plans.

The 21-year-old is out of contract next month and it looks as though a fresh challenge will be coming his way imminently.

The Latest: Call it quits

According to Football Insider, a Liverpool source has informed them that Dixon-Bonner will quit Anfield and move on to pastures new before the start of next season, despite having the option of another 12 months on his current deal.

The player and the club have 'mutually agreed' that the additional year will not be triggered, bringing an end to his time at Anfield.

The Verdict: Natural conclusion

Dixon-Bonner has always been considered a good young player at Liverpool, managing three first-team appearances, but he was never going to be good enough to break into this amazing team. Klopp did once describe him as 'incredible', though, which is something to cherish.

Even someone like Curtis Jones, who is the same age and was considered a bigger talent at youth level, is struggling to enjoy regular playing time at the moment.

It makes perfect sense for Dixon-Bonner to find a new club and become a key player there, using his experience of playing alongside world-class footballers to good use.
