Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has hailed the quality of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in training, as he looks to get his Reds career back on track.

The Lowdown: Ox struggles for playing time

Oxlade-Chamberlain has had an up-and-down time of things at Anfield to date, becoming a key man early on but suffering a number of injury problems.

Last season, the 27-year-old struggled to force his way into Jurgen Klopp's plans, managing just two Premier League starts in total.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is now back and taking part in pre-season training, looking to impress as the new campaign slowly approaches.

The Latest: Lijnder hails Reds midfielder

Someone who is clearly impressed by the midfielder's current form is Lijnders, who lauded the Englishman in an interview with the club's official website:

"I have to highlight that Ox has scored some absolute worldies in training in these last few days – and you absolutely love to see it!"

The Verdict: Pivotal season ahead

These are extremely encouraging words from Lijnders, with Oxlade-Chamberlain such a talented player, but one who doesn't always manage to justify regular starts, almost becoming a forgotten man in the process.

The 2021/22 season feels like a pivotal one for the former Arsenal man, considering he will only have one year remaining on his current deal once the campaign reaches its conclusion.

At that point, Klopp may decide to either retain his services or move him on, depending on how useful he is in the coming months.
