Jesse Marsch has insinuated that Dayot Upamecano would be a good fit for Liverpool.

The American is the current boss of Austrian side RB Salzburg, whose style of play impressed during the Champions League group stages this term. The Reds played twice against them in the competition's group stages, and saw enough of Takumi Minamino to take him to Anfield.

Marsch appeared on the Blood Red Podcast, and spoke about the type of players under his management. He said that Liverpool scouting the club for players is a good move, and even mentioned the RB Leipzig man, who used to play for the side before moving to Germany. Marsch said:

"Jurgen Klopp thinks similarly to [Red Bull’s head of sport and development] Ralf Rangnick and the way we think, so he is always looking here.

"Liverpool have the money where they can get these players and you could extend it to other players like [RB Leipzig centre-back, Dayot] Upamecano, or players we have here like [attacker] Hee-chan Hwang or [midfielder] Enock Mwepu.

"There are a lot of players here that would fit the Liverpool system, so it’s smart."

Upamecano is one of the most sought-after centre-backs in Europe, and has even been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool's Premier League rivals Arsenal in the past. He has been in stunning form so far this term, averaging a WhoScored Bundesliga rating of 7.2, and at 21 years of age, he has plenty of years ahead of him.

His Transfermarkt value currently stands at £40.5m, whilst it was reported earlier this season that Leipzig would only demand €40m (£36.1m) due to his contract running out in 2021. At that price, he could well be a bargain, and considering that Sadio Mane, another who played for Salzburg, has excelled on Merseyside, the omens for Upamecano would be positive.
