Many Liverpool fans urged manager Jurgen Klopp to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano after the latest development.
The Athletic claimed that the Reds will enter the transfer market for the 22-year-old France international next summer and he is top of their wanted list.
With three years left on his contract, the report added that he would be available at the end of the 2020/21 campaign for £40m.
Liverpool are currently going through a severe injury crisis at the back, with the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez ruled out with long-term knee injuries (via talkSPORT).
Upamecano was described as “formidable” by former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, who was impressed with what he saw from the Frenchman during last season’s Champions League quarter-final clash against Atletico Madrid (cited by Independent).
From 123 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit, Upamecano has scored four goals and provided two assists in almost 10,000 minutes of play (TransferMarkt).
Should Liverpool try to sign Dayot Upamecano?
Unsurprisingly, this attracted a positive response from the Anfield faithful, who are desperate to see defensive reinforcements brought to Merseyside as soon as possible. One fan called the Frenchman a ‘beast’.
