Gini Wijnaldum is to leave Liverpool for Paris St Germain after five years at the club, and plenty of Reds fans have been reacting to his latest comments on his departure from Anfield.
Signed from Newcastle United in 2016, the Dutchman has went on to make 237 appearances for the Reds; registering 22 goals and 16 assists [Transfermarkt].
The midfielder initially looked set to join Barcelona on a free transfer this summer, however has now opted for French side Paris St Germain over the Catalan giants [Guardian].
Speaking about leaving Merseyside to Voetbal International, the Netherlands star stated:
"There are things happening behind the scenes that you cannot influence. What I do want to say is that the people at the training complex, the staff of the club and my fellow players would have liked to keep me."
Bound to be intrigued by the statement, which seems to suggest it was the higher-ups at the club who refused him a new deal, many Liverpool fans took to Twitter to react to these latest developments.
