Former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell believes that Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita will be a wanted man if his new contract talks break down.
Keita in high demand?
Previous reports suggested that Anfield chiefs believe that Keita’s personal value has dipped way below the £48m figure that they paid to bring him from RB Leipzig in 2018. Because of this, talks are due to be held regarding his future at the club.
The Guinea international stands as the third-largest transfer that the club has made in its history but has fallen way below the expectations that supporters had of him.
Despite this, Campbell still thinks that clubs across England and Europe will be queueing up to take Keita from Liverpool’s hands.
“I don’t think they’ll struggle to find a suitor for him. He’ll have plenty of options,” he told Football Insider.
“For me, Liverpool and the demands they put on the players and the way they play, it’s obviously going to lead them to injuries. They play at such a high tempo that it’s always gonna bring them injuries.
“We’ve seen so many injuries at Liverpool this year. It was always going to catch up with some of these players.
“But I honestly do think Keita, if Liverpool wanted to move him on, would have plenty of suitors and offers because he’s a great player.”
Transfer Tavern Verdict
There has not been a season that Keita has been at Liverpool where he hasn’t been injured.
Because of the amount of money they paid for him, we believe that some fans may be rapidly losing patience with him.
With two-and-a-half years still left on his contract, Jurgen Klopp has some thinking to do. After their catastrophic injury crisis this season, the question remains whether he wants to keep hold of players such as Keita or look to bring in more reliable options.
