Speaking to Football Insider, pundit Kevin Campbell has tipped Jurgen Klopp to lose Divock Origi next year, potentially in January, as the Reds face losing an ‘unbelievably important‘ name as injuries continue to plague the Liverpool squad.
Origi, who has found game time difficult to come by, has been hailed by Klopp as a crucial figure – especially after his stellar contributions in the Champions League.
Should Liverpool let Origi leave?
Yes, his time is up
No, could still be a great back up
Klopp could lose Origi
Indeed, in 2019, the Belgian scored a famous tie-winning goal against Barcelona at Anfield after an extraordinary comeback, going on to cement Liverpool’s sixth European Cup title with a late strike against Spurs in the final a few weeks later.
However, as his game time continues to be limited due to the arrival of Diogo Jota, Campbell believes Phillips could depart next year, when the transfer window opens in January
“I think the writing is on the wall for Divock Origi, to be honest,” explained the pundit to Football Insider.
“It is through no real fault of his own but Liverpool are progressing as a team.
“Jota is a player who can play across that front line. He is more flexible at a higher level than Origi.
“They brought Jota in and he has hit the ground running. He has been phenomenal this season.
“Origi will have to move on next year.”
Transfer Tavern take
While the striker could serve as a crucial back up option as squad fitness issues continue to take their toll, Campbell could be correct in his verdict that the Reds should let Origi go for the good of his career.
However, even taking that into account, Liverpool fans will likely still be sad to lose a player that contributed massively to their stellar last two years.
