Liverpool handed huge post-deadline day boost

Start Philippe Coutinho Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are gutted Brendan Rodgers didn’t splash the cash in the January transfer window but Metro have handed them a massive boost which has softened the blow somewhat.

According to the publication, the Reds have managed to convince attacking midfield star Philippe Coutinho to sign a new five-and-a-half year deal with the club meaning that all rumours of a potential move away from Anfield will now be put to bed once and for all.

The player himself seemed delighted with the new deal and speaking to the club’s official website, the Brazilian claimed: “Today I’ve committed my future to the club and for this I’m feeling very pleased.”

Our resident Liverpool fans admit that if Coutinho’s stock continues to rise in the way it has since his move to the Reds, he could well be on his way out of the club before that 2020 deadline his new contract provides.

That said,  at least Liverpool will manage to get a far bigger payout for him if he moves on to pastures new. This is not to mention that a new deal shows Coutinho has faith in the club – for now at least.

Liverpool fans. Are you confident that Coutinho will remain on Merseyside until the end of his new contract in 2020 or is that too optimistic an outlook? Let us know your thoughts below.
