Liverpool’s 2025/26 campaign fell well short of expectations, with the defending champions unable to retain their Premier League crown and ultimately finishing fifth in a disappointing season by their standards.
Big-money arrivals such as Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz struggled to make the expected impact due to injuries and inconsistency, while the situation has been made even more significant by the confirmed departure of Mohamed Salah, whose exit marks the end of an era at Anfield.
With the Egyptian superstar now set to move on after a subdued final season, Liverpool face a major rebuilding job this summer as they reshape their attack and midfield for the next cycle.
With the season now over, attention at Anfield has turned firmly towards a significant summer rebuild aimed at refreshing the squad for the next cycle.
Liverpool In Talks for Kennet Eichhorn
Liverpool have made “concrete” moves in their pursuit of German midfield prospect Kennet Eichhorn, with Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg confirming that discussions are already taking place between the club and the player’s representatives.
Taking to X, Plettenberg stated: “Liverpool have entered the race very concretely for 16 y/o wonderkid Kennet Eichhorn. Concrete talks have already taken place, as sources from England confirm.”
He added that Eichhorn is expected to leave Hertha BSC this summer, with a release clause believed to be in the region of €10–12 million.
The highly rated teenager has emerged as one of the most exciting young midfielders in Europe following a breakthrough season in Germany, attracting attention from several elite clubs. Liverpool see him as a long-term investment capable of shaping the club’s future midfield for years to come.
However, the Reds are not alone in their interest. Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also closely monitoring the situation, with both clubs making early moves behind the scenes.
City are understood to be considering a strategy that would see Eichhorn signed and immediately loaned to Bayer Leverkusen for further development, while Bayern are reportedly preparing a long-term contract offer running until 2031. Vincent Kompany is said to view the youngster as a priority target as Bayern aim to secure the Bundesliga’s best emerging talent.
For Liverpool, competition will be intense — but Eichhorn remains firmly on their radar as part of a wider push to rebuild for the future.
