The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a long-term solution to their left-back problem this summer, and Jurgen Klopp is seemingly on the job…
According to ESPNFC, Liverpool are keen on a move for Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand – with Man City also reportedly on his trail.
The deal certainly makes a lot of sense for the Reds, given the poor form of Alberto Moreno when called upon this season. James Milner has, of course, filled in this year – but that can only be a short-term solution for the Reds. If they are serious about winning trophies, they desperately need to fill in the role with a more natural fit.
Bertrand is certainly a player that would fit in well. He has solidified his position as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League, with impressive defensive performances combined with exciting attacking moves highlighting his ability as a well-rounded individual.
The Englishman did, of course, make his name at Chelsea, but what is the Blues’ loss can certainly be Liverpool’s gain this summer – with our landlord a huge fan of Bertrand.
With Liverpool battling it out for a top-four finish this season, there is no doubting that a player of Bertrand’s quality will give the Reds more of a chance in Europe.
