Liverpool man: We must do this against Sevilla in the Champions League

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating the return of the Champions League…

With a loss against Man City still fresh in the memory, the fans in the pub are desperate for their team to return to form against Sevilla – and that’s something that the Liverpool players are keen to do as well.

Speaking to ESPN after Liverpool’s defeat, Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has noted that their Champions League return is more significant on the back of their last game.

Mignolet said: “Of course we can’t neglect the performance after that — we have to keep it in mind — but we have another game midweek when we can prove ourselves again”.

He added: “That’s probably a good thing, the game comes early and we can put things right, change it again”.

Of course, if Liverpool had been allowed for the defeat to manifest itself within their camp for the next week, that would have been bad. But instead, the Reds now must forget it and move on to m0re important matters. As Mignolet says, they need to right their wrongs and beat Sevilla.

Another big defeat would certainly put the pressure on Liverpool. It’s all well and good losing the occasional Premier League game, but the Reds must be consistent in Europe if they want to stand any chance of progressing.

Fortunately, Sevilla are a very beatable opponent, and so provided that the Reds don’t capitulate, they’ll certainly be in a good position to win.

Landlord’s Verdict

From the outside, Liverpool’s loss against Man City was more of a freak defeat than anything else. They went a man down and capitulated, and that can happen to any team.

Fortunately, it is better for the Reds to lose one game heavily than a few games by a slimmer margin – and that is how the club must look at it.

As Mignolet says, they’ve got to use the loss as fuel to return to form in Europe.
