It doesn’t take a genius to work out that Liverpool fans have been less than impressed with their goalkeeping performances this season, as errors and mistakes continue to hamper any progress being made by the Reds. This has huge implications on the future of Simon Mignolet, as it now seemingly leaves him facing an inevitable exit in the summer.
But, in the midst of all the controversy surrounding the mistakes made by Jurgen Klopp’s side, it’s been his decision to promote fellow countryman Loris Karius to the club’s No.1 goalkeeper that’s brought about success. Indeed, the German has been a breath of fresh air in the Liverpool ranks thus far, as he’s relishing the opportunity to make a name for himself in front of the Kop.
And, it looks as if all the backbreaking work that’s been put in by the 24-year-old is set to pay off, as according to reports in the Telegraph, Liverpool are now exploring the option of sticking with Loris Karius this summer. This, after reports had previously suggested that the Reds were very much eyeing up a possible £70 million move for Roma Keeper Alisson as their main goalkeeper.
Nevertheless, with the Klopp looking to his fellow countryman as the Kop’s guardian for the foreseeable future, here’s a look TWO reasons as to why this could be their smartest transfer decision in years…

The German has been sensational for Liverpool since becoming their undisputed No.1 goalkeeper, as it now becomes a case of who they can buy to support the ‘keeper and his career at Anfield.
And, let’s not forget that Loris Karius is only 24-years-old with plenty of progression still to be made, so to have already delivered performances of the highest order is something that can only bode well for the future. Indeed, the German has already attracted the highest of praise off one of the best goalkeepers in the history of English football, as Peter Schmeichel has previously stated that Karius isn’t too far behind in ability to Manuel Neuer.
Therefore, with the German set to be gifted an extended run in the side as their first-choice goalkeeper, this could be the turning point in the young man’s Liverpool career that sees him reach the heights of former Kop legend Bruce Grobbelaar.

Liverpool have only just paid out a whopping £75 million fee for defender Virgil Van Dijk in the January transfer window, with the club now keeping a watchful eye over who they invest their money into. Indeed, still with a replacement yet to be found for Philippe Coutinho, this money could perhaps be ideal for seeking the services of another of the world’s best.
Therefore, with a reported £70 million being the asking price for Roma ‘keeper Alisson, it’s needless to break another world record fee when there’s a perfectly capable goalkeeper already at your disposal.
Indeed, the money that would have quite possibly been used for the purchase of the Brazilian can now be spent bolstering areas of the field that are seen as a weakness. And, who can argue with Klopp’s decisions so far during his time on Merseyside, after bringing two potential club legends to Anfield with the signings of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
