Having rotated between both Mignolet and Karius, seemingly game by game, Klopp needs a strong player in between the sticks.

Indeed, it’s a position that seems to have bothered the Merseyside giants for years, ever since the glory days of Pepe Reina faded into memory.

The Liverpool boss should look to Old Trafford for a new keeper in Sergio Romero. United’s number two has made a handful of league appearances and at the age of 30 and will be looking for first team minutes, instead of warming the bench playing understudy to David De Gea each week.

Reportedly frustrated, it’s a real chance for Liverpool to break the 53-year tradition of signing players from their biggest rivals.

Romero played all the Europa League matches last season, which United ended up winning, with some impressive performances on the way.

He may only have a handful of Premier League starts to his name, but his experience and commanding presence between the sticks is there for all to see.

Jose Mourinho is clearly confident of Romero’s ability to step in for De Gea when needed and a move for him would be a positive one all around.

What Klopp needs is a goalkeeper with confidence that can boss the four men in front of him and Romero certainly fits that bill. During his time at United, when given the chance in the league, he’s kept five clean sheets in six Premier League starts, showing his ability to command a backline.

He’s a fantastic shot stopper and would be a massive upgrade to what they now have.
