A chorus of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ fills the busy Football Transfer Tavern this lunchtime as a group of Liverpool supporters enter the bar clearly still in high spirits following their stunning derby day victory.
The Reds put Merseyside rivals Everton to the sword in a 4-0 thrashing at Anfield last night, in what manager Brendan Rodgers has described as an ‘outstanding’ team performance.
With the club comfortably situated in the top four, the prospect of Champions League football returning to Anfield now looks a distinct possibility.
Liverpool are heading into a pivotal period of their season and their supporters feel that some transfer activity must be completed before Friday’s deadline, to give them the best chance of success this season.
The latest speculation about a possible transfer target comes from talkSPORT who suggest that Rodgers wants to re-sign former Liverpool youth product Thomas Ince from Blackpool.
The England Under-21 international departed Anfield in August 2011 as he sought first team football, but with his contract at Bloomfield Road set to expire, Ince could now make a welcome return to Merseyside if the latest reports in the tavern are to believed.
The Reds are seeking new talent after missing out on Basel’s Mohamed Salah, who decided to join Chelsea instead and it is possible that the 21-year-old could fit the bill for Rodgers.
Ince has emerged as one of the finest young players outside of the Premier League, with 33 goals in his 133 matches for the Tangerines, but following the departure of his father Paul as manager of Blackpool, a statement was released that confirmed he was allowed to move on loan to a Premier League side for the rest of the campaign.
His future has since been the talk of the tavern, with our landlord on hand to inform punters that Swansea City, Cardiff City, Hull City and Stoke City are also thought to be considering loan moves for the youngster.
However with today’s reports indicating possible talks in the next 24 hours at Anfield, the wheels could be in motion to see him rejoining his former club, at least until the end of the season.
