Victor Wanyama’s game time has been reduced massively since his return from a knee injury, having been mainly used as a substitute our regulars believe it’s only a matter of time before he wants to move in order to gain regular first-team minutes.

Both Liverpool and Man United are looking for midfielders this summer, and our barman thinks that United need Wanyama more than their fierce rivals Liverpool.

Wanyama is currently valued at £27m via Transfermarkt and at that price point surely many of the top boys in the Premier League will be sniffing around, however, the only tricky situation would be that of Daniel Levy. With that in mind, our landlord takes a look at why Reds boss Jurgen Klopp should go all out for the Spurs man, and how he would make a difference to his high-flying Liverpool team…

Liverpool’s need for a holding CM

With all of Liverpool’s high-flying football, what they have been missing for large parts of the season is a disciplined midfielder to protect the back-four and break up the play. A monster in midfield like Wanyama would be the ideal player for Klopp to bring balance to his side.

The 26-year-old is more than happy to sit back and hold, as Liverpool bomb forward, knowing that they have the security of Wanyama behind them would give them an extra confidence.

Wanyama key to unlocking teams potential

If Klopp can secure the signing of Wanyama, he could potentially unbolt the midfield pairing of in front of him. Wanyama likes to sit deep and hold to protect the defence and, with Klopp preferring a 433 formation, this would suit him down to the ground.

By letting the other two in the midfield trio run riot, this would give the like of incoming Naby Keita, Jordan Henderson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain the creativity and a free pass to go an express themselves further on the pitch.
